I have read a news article on CNN Interactive. Its topic is “ Drunk Driving Laws Making Impact In California.”(http://literacynet.org/cnnsf/drunkdriving/home.html)
Summary: A car accident caused her beloved one to death told Rebecca Bearden the danger of drunk driving. So she participated in MADD.Though drunk driving has been wrongful since 1911, the law wasn’t carried out strictly till MADD started to alter people’s awareness about drunk driving. They strived to persuade people that“ Drunk driving is a sin.” and finally succeeded. Liquor associated death in California has decreased since 1980. But the work has not finished because the officers in California still catch a drunk driver every six minutes.
What I have learned: Drunk driving is also a serious problem in Taiwan. We can often watch reports on TV news that someone was killed or seriously injured by a drunk driver. When watching the news, I really felt pity on the victims. I think the punishment for drunk driving is too light, they can’t learn a lesson from it. It's a good experience to learn from California and we should start doing something to prevent someone is killed by a drunk driver.
Some thoughts and reflections about the language exercises: I think the installation is very good because it can help me to catch the subject of the article well. The vocabulary part help me to know the new words precisely. The questions provide a situation teach me when to use the words. The multiple choice part test my further reading about the article. The sequencing part help me organize the sequence of the article. All parts of the installation really help me to read an English news article easier. I think the website is really a good place to learn to read English news.
